Testimonials

First of all, we thought the show was fabulous, and the descriptions I was able to hear were simply perfect! The lady did such a wonderful job of altering her tone of voice and inflections to fit the various scenes. I think she deserves an Academy Award. And thanks for the Intro document. It was excellent as well.

I just wanted to write to say thank you for the excellent service last night during Lion King. I have heard of VocalEye before but have never experienced your service nor did I realize the service was available for last night’s show. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant surprise. I hope I will be able to enjoy one of your performances again in the near future.

I loved the experience. I was pleased that the audio descriptions did not interrupt my enjoyment of the play but added to it. You really understand that it is not necessary to tell us stuff that is conveyed through dialogue. Nice!

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the touch tour. Being able to actually touch the clothing, props, books, masks, etc., really allowed me to further connect with the theatre experience. I was impressed with the sword and dagger. I want one of those swanky, swirly guards from the sword as an attachment to my white cane. Very stylish. What a bonus to meet the actors too. It added a whole new layer of comprehension to the experience. In the scene where you announced it was a mascarade ball, I just thought dancing. When I was able to feel the masks, it clicked that they wore those at the ball. I realize you said it was a mascarade ball but until I touched them, I hadn’t envisioned the scene that way. Everyone I spoke to afterwards was really impressed and plans to attend the next show and to promote it amongst other blind folks here in town.

It has been a wonderful treat to be able to enjoy the arts without imposing on anyone or missing out myself! Avenue Q was exceptional!! I hope that The Vocal Eye, with the support of its members and the community, can continue to provide such an outstanding service – perhaps even expanding into further areas of the arts!! THANKYOU VOCAL EYE!! You speak words that make THE difference!!

For me, even though my own visual impairment is very minor and I don’t really need the description to get 95 percent of what’s going on, having a service that describes the other five percent for me is a very nice thing, and helps me to enjoy the play that much more.

P. D. (Avenue Q)

Adding live description adds immeasurably to the enjoyment of the play. Until I had access to live description, I never knew how much I missed when attending a play…even if the person accompanying me was doing his or her best to keep me informed about the actions of the characters. It is also very unobtrusive so other audience members are not disturbed. Now, when I attend a play, I feel that I am really getting my money’s worth. I just simply didn’t know how much the visual element added to the entertainment. Now, if I go to a movie or play without description, I feel cheated and a bit disgruntled because I know I missed a lot. In consequence, now I only go to live theatre events that are audio described.

LOVED IT!! It was so much fun!

I’ve always enjoyed live theatre, but being visually impaired, I often had to ask others with me what was going on when the audience reacted to something taking place on stage that is not clearly explained through the actors’ dialogue – questions like what’s so funny or who got shot? With VocalEye, I’m not missing anything that happens on stage. It makes the experience of live theatre even more enjoyable because I always know what is happening on stage. I will definitely be going to more VocalEye performances in the future! Now that I have been once, I don’t think I ever want to go to a performance that doesn’t have VocalEye description because now I know what I’m missing! Thanks so much for this service.

Great, fast pace farce. It must be hard to get the descriptions in between the actors lines – GREAT JOB!!

When I lost my sight I had a sinking feeling that I would never enjoy the stage again. It had been such a huge part of my life and I had so many fond memories of my experiences. I was never much for novels, but theatre pulls at my heart strings and makes me feel alive. VocalEye has allowed me to develop a new relationship with the theatre, one I thought I had lost forever! I will be a patron for life!

Thank you again for a marvelous evening at the theatre. My equipment worked perfectly! The sound of the choir and the individual voices were beautiful. Terry did an excellent job describing the action on the stage. Hearing about the mist, sparkles, Confetti shot, changes in lighting and many different costume changes, helped to enhance my imagination. Describing what was on the screen was most helpful. The dance with Talia sounded lovely and intriguing…You painted a picture in my mind and it was beautiful. This must have been a challenging performance to describe, and you did an awesome job.
