Almost Live | Project Fire Flower

Wednesday Dec 15, 2021 at 6:30 pm Pacific Time online via Zoom

Join us for a virtual tour of Project Fire Flower, an art installation at Vancouver’s Grunt Gallery, created by community member Collin van Uchelen.

Project Fire Flower is an invitation to explore pyrotechnical arts through both visual and non-visual senses. The exhibition highlights the shapes of fireworks in physical forms, revealing the transient and dynamic structures of their light as if frozen in time. The primary displays were made accessible to viewers through visual, audio and tactile elements.

“One of my goals with this project is to present the effects with enough clarity so that viewers can begin to recognize and identify the different fireworks by their shapes. This can be done with or without eyesight. In addition, the exhibition also provides an opportunity for visitors to appreciate pyrotechnics as its own unique art form.” -conceptual designer, Collin van Uchelen, Ph.D.

Amy will be joined by special guests Collin van Uchelen and his collaborator, social engagement artist and fellow community member, Carmen Papalia.

This evening will also include Secret Santa gift draws and other holiday surprises, including a virtual tour of Bright Nights in Stanley Park, a 10-minute train ride through the bright holiday light display in Stanley Park with audio description by Ingrid Turk.

The VocalEye virtual lobby opens at 6:30 pm Pacific Time for some socializing and community updates with host Amy Amantea. The pre-show introduction will begin at 6:45 pm with Amy and guests. The featured show begins at 7 pm followed by conversation, Q and A and a prize draw.

If you’ve never attended a VocalEye Almost Live Zoom event before, you can register for just one event or sign up for the full season. A Zoom link and reminder will be sent to you on the day of the event. Almost Live events are designed for people with sight loss, but everyone is welcome.
