Almost Live | The Garden of Alice

Wednesday May 18, 2022 at 6:30 pm Pacific Time online Zoom

The Garden of Alice is a magical, operatic film adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, sung in English, from Pacific Opera Victoria.

Lewis Carroll’s famous tale shifts to a new perspective, where we meet Alice as an elderly woman in hospital reflecting back on her vivid adventures in a dream-like haze.

As Alice’s hospital attendants care for her, they transform into the beloved, sketchy, and sometimes wicked characters from ‘down the rabbit hole’, and Alice awakens to discover her life’s meaning, through this enchanted lens.

This stylized cinematic and musical experience is a first for Pacific Opera.

“Making an opera for film was ambitious, beyond anything we’d ever done. Making an opera for film in a time of COVID was nuts. But down the rabbit hole we went…” –read more about the process in POV Keynotes

Audiences of all generations will succumb to the charms of this story — its depth, fantastical visual qualities, and ultimate meaning – about the promise of life itself. VocalEye is thrilled to present this film with audio description by special guest and UK colleague, Roz Chalmers.

The VocalEye virtual lobby opens at 6:30 pm Pacific Time for some socializing and community updates with host Amy Amantea. The pre-show introduction will begin at 6:45 pm with Amy and guests. The featured show begins at 7 pm followed by conversation, Q and A and a prize draw.
