Almost Live | To See or Not to See

Wednesday March 10, 2021 at 6:30 pm Pacific Time via Zoom

To See or Not to See is a powerful story of wounding, overcoming, courage, and healing written by Ruth Bieber, a member of the Canadian blind community. Employing the circular motif of a shamanic quest as a framing device, Bieber’s first play explores what it’s like to experience sight loss as a child, a woman, a mother and a professional.

VocalEye’s Rick Waines described the world premiere production of To See or Not To See in October 2016 at the Mary Irwin Theatre in Kelowna. This archival video of that production is newly described by Eileen Barrett.

Ruth is the recipient of the 2001 Mount Royal College Excellence in Teaching Award, 2003 Calgary Community Adult Living Teacher of the Year Award, 2004 Woman of Vision, 2006 Euclid Herie Leadership Award (CNIB), the 2008 Donald Norman Balancing Acts awards for achievements as artistic director of Inside Out Integrated Theatre Company, and the 2011 Spirit of Kelowna award for contribution to the Arts.

The VocalEye virtual lobby opens at 6:30 pm Pacific Time for some socializing and community updates with host Amy Amantea. The pre-show introduction will begin at 6:45 pm with special guests Ruth Beiber and actress Janet Anderson. The show begins at 7 pm with a running time of approximately 80 minutes, followed by conversation, Q and A and a prize draw.
