Almost Live #91 | You Can’t Get There from Here, vol 2, part 2

Wednesday July 6, 2022 at 6:30 pm Pacific Time online Zoom

Following their highly acclaimed first season, Factory Theatre is proud to be returning to headphones across the globe with You Can’t Get There From Here Vol. 2. This limited series features a brand new set of five commissioned audio dramas from more of Canada’s most creative playwrights. You Can’t Get There From Here offers listeners fresh perspectives on familiar Toronto landmarks and neighbourhoods and glimpses into the micro-dramas occurring each day around us, hidden in plain sight.

Each episode offers a new, self-contained story and a vivid audio experience from each playwright.

We’ll present the final 2 episodes of the 5 play series, each one is approximately 35 minutes long:

Episode 4: Doubletree by Amy Lee Lavoie and Omari Newton (authors of Redbone Coonhound)

Sydney and Tara are a couple in love, who have recently inherited an apartment in Toronto – in today’s market better than winning the lottery. But was this apartment the start to their happy life together or the path to their destruction? Crime podcaster Dom Maxwell is determined to find out the truth.

A horror story not for the faint of heart. Doubletree brings an unsettling story about a couple’s demise and the death of their love.

Episode 5: The Artists by Kat Sandler

Love sees no barriers – at least that is what young jazz musician Nicky hopes her judgemental mother Thea will believe when she is introduced to Nicky’s much older boyfriend.

Nicky has been lying to her mother about her relationship with a much older man, a man she is in love with, a man she sees a long future with and man who is adamant to be introduced to her family. When they show up to Thea’s house for a birthday dinner, things go awry as past memories are brought up and old connections brought forward. The Artists is a comedic picture into complicated relationships, especially the one between mothers and their daughters.

Navigating the Toronto scene with host Amy Amantea are returning guests and favourite Torontonians, Christine MalecJJ Hunt and Joeita Gupta. Christine and JJ currently host the popular Talk Description To Me podcast series and Joieta hosts The Pulse, a weekly podcast on AMI.

The VocalEye virtual lobby opens at 6:30 pm Pacific Time for some socializing and community updates with host Amy Amantea. The pre-show introduction will begin at 6:45 pm with Amy and guests. The featured show begins at 7 pm followed by conversation, Q and A and a prize draw.
