Almost Live | Us Festival Highlights

Wednesday Feb 24, 2021 at 6:30 pm Pacific Time via Zoom

Us is an online arts festival in celebration of Black Peoples Month (aka Black History Month) presented by Vancouver’s Ensemble Theatre Company. Highlights from the festival include:

  1. a staged reading of Three Part Disharmony, a chorus of three black men experience what is potentially the worst day in a black male’s life: a police encounter
  2. The Poet and the Patrician, a compelling audio recreation of the historical debate between Black author and activist James Baldwin and white conservative pundit William F. Buckley Jr. The original debate was held in 1965 around Baldwin’s assertion that “the American Dream had been achieved at the expense of the American Negro.”

The VocalEye virtual lobby opens at 6:30 pm Pacific Time for some socializing and community updates with host Amy Amantea. The pre-show introduction will begin at 6:45 pm and the first reading begins at 7 pm. Running time is approximately 90 minutes, including conversation and Q and A with actor/director Omari Newton and a prize draw.
