VocalEye’s 13th season of live described performances and events continues! Scroll down for shows, dates and details.

VocalEye headsets will be available in the theatre lobby at the VocalEye table up to one hour before show time. Our receivers come with a single earpiece. They are also compatible with standard earbuds and headphones and you are welcome to bring your own. The transmission is a mono FM signal and will come through on one side only.

There will be a live, pre-show descriptive introduction approximately 10 minutes before curtain. Please be in your seat with your headset turned on and VocalEye’s Theatre Buddies will do a sound check with you to make sure everything is working.

Many of our theatre partners offer ticket discounts to VocalEye users. Be sure to mention VocalEye when you book your tickets.

VocalEye staff and volunteers continue to wear face masks in the theatre and will have extra masks at the equipment table if you would like one.

Theatre Buddies are available for transit meetups and assistance at selected venues. Please book with buddies@vocaleye.ca at least 3 days in advance of the performance.

FEBRUARY

Okinum is a captivating combination of performance, live sound, and visual storytelling, the play is a circular and immersive experience that interweaves three languages: English, French and Anishnaabemowin, an Indigenous language from the Great Lakes region. Forgiveness is based on the acclaimed memoir by Mark Sakamoto, Forgiveness is the powerful story of his family’s harrowing experiences during World War II. Clementine, follows a young girl as she navigates the turbulence of her parents’ divorce to find the true meaning of family and love in this Carousel Theatre production. Suitable for ages 6 and up. Teenage Dick, or “Richard III” meets “Mean Girls”, a deliciously witty and darkly funny Shakespeare adaptation that takes a modern stance on disability, power, and perception. Oz imagines what it was like for the author of this famous story to experience writer’s block and to get a little help from his friends to finish it, in this Carousel Theatre production. The Prom, a musical full of heart, hope and hard-hitting hilarity. Descriptive Mural Tour on Sunday, August 20 at 11 am. This 75-minute tour will include visual descriptions of selected murals in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, followed by a notable social. Drumming and Singing Circle, a VocalEye community workshop with Deanna Gestrin on Saturday, August 26 at 11 am. No drumming or singing experience is needed, just bring yourself and an open heart! Drums will be provided for use in the workshop. Open to all ages. Family members and sighted companions are welcome to join this multicultural, intergenerational space (youth under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult).
