While Nan bastes the turkey and prepares the stuffing, her husband hides a freshly hunted bear in the garage and her troublesome daughter is raiding her purse again. To top it all off, her grandchildren have chosen this Thanksgiving to disclose some unexpected personal truths to the family. This intimate and restorative new play provides plenty of laughs and some serious food for thought.

REVIEWS

“It’s kind of like a turkey dinner,” Loring, N’lakap’amux from the Lytton First Nation, laughingly describes his play. “There’s a lot on the table.” And there is: colonialism, mistreatment of First Nations people, residential schools, First Nations contribution to the armed forces, vegetarianism, alcoholism, the degradation of the planet, illegal sale of bear parts, mythology and more… Central to it all, however, is Margo Kane. Small and solid, she is the calm, quiet centre of the play. If the grizzly sow is The Mother, Kane is The Mother of this production: a wise, no-nonsense actor who channels Nan’s values.”Jo Ledingham

Thanks for Giving feels like it’s on the brink of becoming a significant dramatic work. That’s partly because of Loring’s physical vision for the piece, which is exquisitely realized under his direction in this Arts Club production.”Colin Thomas

“There are some very powerful moments, the perspective of the story telling feels fresh, and Margo Kane is simply brilliant to watch.”VancouverPresents
