Amy Amantea is a legally blind artisan, theatre lover and VocalEye board member. Working as “The Blind Beader”, Amy has designed an original series of jewellery just for VocalEye that features “Evil Eye” beads. Her choice of the deep blue “Evil Eye” glass bead was inspired by the VocalEye logo, which includes a bright blue eye inside the “o” of the word “vocal”.
According to Wikipedia: the “evil eye” is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury. Talismans created to protect against the evil eye are also frequently called “evil eyes”.
It is common in the Turkish culture to give a gift of a blue nazar Boncugu, or an “evil eye” bead, for protection.
Amy’s exclusive Evil Eye designs may be purchased in person at one of our described performances. All proceeds go towards funding VocalEye’s description programs.
