Exploring Mime for the Blind (A First Experiment)
Hosted by Amy Amantea
Join us for an experimental and collaborative Describer’s Cafe where we explore describing mime for the blind.
As a low-vision description writer, Amy Amantea has been curious about how mime, so often thought of as purely visual, might be translated through intention, rhythm, and storytelling rather than only visual gesture. This session is an opportunity to share early work, listen together, and think out loud about what’s possible.
Amy will be sharing a few examples from her own practice and talking through her approach: what was chosen to describe, what was left open, and what remains to ponder.
We’ll reflect together, and explore questions like:
- How do weight, timing, and intention shape good description?
- What does a blind audience need in order to follow mime?
- Where can description support imagination without over-directing it?
This is not a polished presentation—it’s a shared inquiry. A chance to gather, listen, and learn together in community.
I hope you’ll join us in this first step and help shape where this work might go next!
