Described by Rick Waines
The hero of this story is Mary, the ageing matriarch of a wealthy family. She loves her husband, has enjoyed her life, and has lived well. However, something is wrong with the family she so loves, and when one of her children disappears, a series of events is unleashed that forever changes her family and her life.
The play takes place in a world of finance and real estate. It is a story about our cities, about power and land, the things we do in order to flourish, and the drastic steps we must take in order to survive. Unabashedly confronting systematic corruption in our society, delving into ownership and colonization past and present, the play demands we examine our role and complicity within the larger power structures of society.
Bravely pushing the boundaries of media in the theatre, The Full Light of Day features live film adaption, live cameras, and projected imagery and video to create an integrated scenography and rich visual world. Themes of perception and truth are heightened through this unique blending of live and cinematic content.
“The Full Light of Day will rank as one of the most epic-scale plays staged in Vancouver in 2019.” –The Georgia Straight (preview)
