Learn how to effectively and confidently assist a person who is blind or partially sighted in everyday situations. The training will include an introduction to Disability Justice principles, effective communication, guide dog etiquette, practical techniques and every day scenarios.

Topics include: language, disability history and etiquette, assumptions and bias, respectful and dignified ways of facilitating conversation, guide dogs and service dogs, and the history of the white cane.

Participants will partner up to try out practical techniques in sighted guiding such as giving directions and what to describe when you are guiding.

An optional orientation session for VocalEye Theatre Buddy volunteers will be offered following the basic training. This orientation includes an introduction to VocalEye equipment, procedures and policies for assisting patrons at the theatre. An additional application is required for our Theatre Buddy program.
