Part of the 2026 Chutzpah! Festival

After a sold-out run at the 2025 Toronto Fringe Festival, where it won T.O. Live’s Best of Fringe, Things My Dad Kept by Ronit Rubinstein will receive its West Coast Premiere at this year’s Chutzpah!

A few years ago, playwright and performer Ronit Rubinstein helped her mom clean out the family home. This meant going through her father’s office, a space barely touched in the decade following his death from cancer in 2012.

Things My Dad Kept is a deeply personal piece about her relationship with her father Mordechai, a Holocaust survivor, and how she learned more about him while looking through the items and memories he kept in a filing cabinet drawer.

* This performance is presented as a Relaxed Performance. Some house lights will remain on throughout the show, volume levels are slightly lowered, and the audience can leave and re-enter as needed.

Presented as part of the 2026 annual Chutzpah! Festival, which runs from November 3 to 16, 2026.

The Chutzpah! Festival: The Lisa Nemetz Festival of International Jewish Performing Arts is an annual festival of world-renowned dance, music, theatre, and comedy, through a lens of Jewish experiences, stories, and values in all their richness and diversity. This year, Chutzpah! explores and celebrates the stories and lives of our artists. From hilarious comedy that will have you in stitches to exhilarating dance pieces, concerts, and even a panto that will have everyone singing along, the festival is about art – plain and simple.

The Chutzpah! Festival was launched in 2001 by the Vancouver West Side Theatre Society. The Society, established and incorporated in 1994, also operates the Festival’s home, the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre, a professionally-equipped 318 seat proscenium theatre catering to the presentation of professional dance, music and theatre, as well as film, literary and community arts events.

Chutzpah! Festival logo, featuring the festival name in lowercase yellow and silver lettering, with “Festival” set vertically and the year forming the dot of the exclamation mark.
